Philip Morris Ukraine Assists the Elderly in Kharkiv  
On Wednesday, Philip Morris Ukraine and Eurasia Foundation, in partnership with the Kharkiv City Council, will present a new initiative to help four local NGOs create community senior centers for the retired and elderly population of Kharkiv city. The Kharkiv City Council also joins the Community Centers for People in Need program to provide municipal locations, assign social workers and help coordinate legal and counseling services for the centers. Philip Morris Ukraine will provide local senior citizens with access to basic social, counseling and legal services. The centers will help them connect with their peers through a social network and activity clubs. It will also improve the capacity of the local government and private charities to provide services to pensioners. For more information, click here.
McDonald's Celebrates "World Children's Day"
On November 18, famous athletes and celebrities will come to McDonald's on Kreshchatyk to celebrate the 6th annual World Children's Day, an annual global fundraiser for children. The celebrity guests will help sell "hands," trinkets and bracelets to celebrate the event and raise funds. All proceeds from the event will be used to purchase the equipment for urgent medical help for 28 children's hospitals throughout Ukraine. World Children's Day at McDonald's will be celebrated around the world throughout November and will culminate on Tuesday, November 20, 2007. Ukraine joins worldwide initiative to develop ISO 26000 standards on CSR
On November 1, 70 representatives from all sectors gathered for a round table to launch the Ukrainian National Mirror Committee. Six experts and three observers from businesses, government, NGOs, trade unions, consumer associations and research institutes were selected to represent Ukraine at the Vienna meeting of the International Organization for Standardization's (ISO) Working Group on Social Responsibility (WG SR) that will draft an International Standard for social responsibility to be published in 2009 as ISO 26000. The round table was organized by the Derzhspozhyvchstandart, whose leader, Mr. Oleksandr Shnypko, along with a WG SR convener, Mr. Martin Neureiter, explained the role and mechanism of the working group. Mr. Neureiter said that the countries working on this important initiative encourage Ukraine's participation. For more information, click here.

The League of Professional Women Announces a CSR Training
The League of Professional Women (LPW) will conduct their first open training, "Corporate Social Responsibility: Basic Course for Third Sector Leaders" on November 22 in Kyiv. Please visit LPW's website to learn more and to register (in Ukrainian).
