UC RUSAL invests in social initiatives development in Zaporizhzhia
On January 21, 10 winners of UC RUSAL's small grants competition in Zaporizhzhia received their grant awards, up to 5,000 UAH each to implement community-driven social projects. UC RUSAL, the world's largest aluminum and alumina producer, received 28 grant applications from 20 organizations to implement projects to promote healthy lifestyles, culture and heritage and children with special needs, such as sporting events, conferences, and art therapy. In 2008, UC RUSAL will increase the competition awards to a total of 100,000 UAH. Click here to read more about UC RUSAL's community investment programs.

The Victor Pinchuk Foundation Hosts Philanthropic Roundtable in Davos
On January 24, the Viktor Pinchuk Foundation organized a Philanthropic Roundtable discussion at the Davos World Economic Forum to advance philanthropy development in Ukraine and highlight new philanthropists and recent social projects. Participants including George Soros; The Economist's Matthew Bishop; Kateryna Yushchenko; representatives from the Bill and Melinda Gates and Clinton foundations discussed long-term effects of philanthropic activities, accountability, relations between philanthropy and government and philanthropy development in the emerging economies of Central and Eastern Europe. UCAN Hosts Corporate Philanthropy Seminar in Kyiv
On February 6, UCAN will host a seminar for business professionals entitled "Social Change Philanthropy:  How corporate philanthropy can address root causes and change systems. Venture philanthropy and social entrepreneurship as models for social change." UCAN invites business leaders, CEOs and managers responsible for setting policy and directing corporate philanthropy to this seminar at the Hotel Opera in Kyiv to discuss social activities for businesses. The seminar will feature speakers Shannon St. John, founding director and CEO for the Triangle Community Foundation; Jorge Zukoski, president of the American Chamber of Commerce in Ukraine; Rob John, the chief advisor to the European Venture Philanthropy Association (EVPA) and others.
