Microsoft and PH International Launch Unlimited Potential Program in Ukraine
On March 4, Project Harmony International and Microsoft Unlimited Potential announced their "Information Dissemination and Equal Access" (IDEA) project in Kyiv. IDEA's goal is to align Microsoft technologies, partnerships, business, and corporate citizenship efforts to bring the benefits of information and communications technology to people in all regions of Ukraine, enabling them to improve their quality of life. PH International will implement the $190,000 project through a network of seven educational centers in Donetsk, Simferopol, Kherson, Cherkassy, Sumy, Vinnitsa and Chernovtsy. The centers will work closely with local NGOs and information centers with support from regional and municipal governments. In 2008, PH International expects to offer basic computer and Internet training to about 2,800 individuals, increasing their competitiveness in the labor market. Click here for more information. |

The Foundation for the Development of Ukraine Presents its 2006-07 Social Report
On March 19, the charitable Foundation for the Development of Ukraine presented the results of its 2006-07 charitable activities. Foundation President Rinat Akhmetov and its management team discussed past programs, financial information and programs for 2008. During 2006-2007, the Foundation invested more then 86 million UAH in contemporary education, health of the nation and cultural heritage development programs. Previously run by System Capital Management, the Foundation disclosed that as of March 2008, it is Akhmetov's private foundation. Under Akhmetov, it expects to invest $150 million in its programs over the next five years. Representatives of major charitable foundations, the Verkhovna Rada and the Cabinet of Ministers, nonprofit and international organizations attended the presentation. CSR Round Table in Kyiv to Discuss Business and Media Cooperation for Social Responsibility
On April 2, representatives from businesses, NGOs and the media will gather for a round table discussion on "Corporate Social Responsibility through the Eyes of Media" at the Hyatt in Kyiv. Round table participants will discuss opportunities for business and media cooperation, trying to find ways to engage large businesses in solutions to critical social problems in Ukraine through the media. The roundtable is one event of the "PRESSzvanie 2007" journalism competition to recognize the finest journalists covering business and economic issues.
