Ukrainian Students Take High Honors at Microsoft's Imagine Cup 2008 Computer Competition
 
Students from Ukraine took first place in the "Project Hoshimi" (Programming Battle) and third in "Algorithyms" at Microsoft's Imagine Cup 2008 in Paris, France July 3-8. Imagine Cup is an international competition that encourages students to explore new ways to use the power of software to address some of the world's toughest challenges. More than 200,000 students from over 100 countries and regions participated in this year's competition. Please click here to learn more.
Mykolaiv Business Community Supports Civil Society Initiatives
 
On July 10, UC RUSAL, the world's largest aluminum and alumina producer, joined the Mykolaiv City Charitable Foundation "Meta" to announce the winners of the first small grants competition for their mutual project, "Charitable Season-2008." Over 30 local organizations submitted proposals that engage the citizens of Mykolaiv to help solve real problems in their community by developing and implementing social, health and environmental projects that will achieve practical, effective results. "Charitable Season-2008" works toward growing a culture of charity, social partnerships and volunteer activities in the local community and businesses to create a positive social environment. Telenor, East Europe Foundation and OSCE Help Slavutych City Improve Energy Efficiency
 
A Slavutych NGO, the Small Business Laboratory, will develop a municipal energy management system for Slavutych city, working with local public officials to improve energy efficiency in municipal buildings. This project is made possible with support from the East Europe Foundation and Telenor Ukraine. Please click here for more information.
